The Scam of Seed Oils

Seed oils. Have you become more aware of these over the last few days, weeks, months? If so, there is good reason as more people are becoming conscious of the harmful effects of these substances. If not, I would encourage you to read on.

What are seed oils? Let’s start by identifying the not-so-great eight:

  • Canola Oil (literal engine lubricant - I am not joking about this - so stay far away. Europe has issued a partial ban on this product primarily dependent on erucic acid content)

  • ”Vegetable” Oil (a broad, “friendly” word is used to create leeway to basically put literal byproduct waste in these “blends”)

  • Grapeseed Oil (invented for financial reasons, due to exorbitant amounts of leftover seeds from winemaking…and among other things, requires a compound called hexane for extraction, which low and behold, is unsafe to humans)

  • Soybean Oil (so high in unsafe polyunsaturated fat content that Monsanto started creating “Roundup-Ready” soybeans…yes, THAT Monsanto, and yes, THAT Roundup, aka glyphosate which has been shown to cause cancer…if Monsanto of all people had to create a GMO with glyphosate to continue selling this…you get where I am going with this)

  • Corn Oil (dirt cheap to make and used in insecticides and in paint - awesome!)

  • Sunflower Oil (high in pro-inflammatory Omega-6/Linoleic acid - I know, but it sounds so cheery and “heart-healthy,” though, right?)

  • Ricebran Oil (also high in pro-inflammatory Omega-6/Linoleic acid - get ready to be prescribed an “anti-inflammatory diet” with more of this stuff in it…sigh)

  • Cottonseed/Rapeseed Oil (found to be damaging to cardiac cells, though, according to the FDA, is “generally recognized as safe”)

Do you think that what I’ve written above is so outrageous that it cannot possibly be true? That the big food industry would do this to us? Then all I ask of you is to look it up for yourselves!

Fortunately, there are some tested and true alternatives available for us, all of which we are largely aware of, that are safe for cooking and consumption:

  • Olive Oil

  • Coconut Oil (more to come on this amazing but forgotten oil)

  • Beef Tallow

  • Ghee

  • Grass-Fed Butter

Moral of the story: if you are thinking of using or consuming anything high in polyunsaturated fat content, or PUFA, don’t. Run instead.
